The designs in this series are taken from Gotlandic picture stones.
The spinning wheel symbol is common on the oldest picture stones. It is interpreted as a symbol of the life-giving sun, rolling across the sky. This version of the symbol is found on a 5th-6th century pictury stone, discovered at Väskinde cemetery. The stone is exhibited in Fornsalen.
