During the 1770's the Swedish king Gustav III ordered the construction of a number of crown distilleries. One of these was located in Visby, in the the buildings now housing the historical museum, Fornsalen. The distillery was never very profitable and was therefor closed in the year 1800.
When a sewage pipe was cleaned in 1988 a seal from the days of the distillery was found. Pictured on the bronze seal is the Swedish coat of arms, surrounded by tthe words "Wisby Crono Brennerie" (Wisby Crown Distillery).
Visby Glass Studio has, in cooperation with the museum, re-produced this green-toned 18th century type bottle with the distilley's red laquer seal.
Each bottle has a unique shape. The bottle you order will not look exactly like the picture. Feel free to call our museum shop if you are unsure. We will help you find the bottle you want.
